AID-H-003.007: Adapter / PEFT (Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning) Supply Chain Integrity & Provenance Verification
Pillars: infra, model
Lifecycle: building, validation, operation
Scope boundary
Owns supply-chain integrity and provenance verification for adapters, LoRA and PEFT artifacts, including immutable identity, source, signature, base-model binding, configuration, compatibility, and loader constraints before composition.
AID-H-003.006: AID-H-003.007 admits an adapter and proves its exact base-model and configuration binding; AID-H-003.006 attests the composition and provenance of the complete model release. Adapter-specific admission precedes and feeds the release SBOM rather than disappearing into it.
AID-H-003.009: AID-H-003.007 verifies adapter source, identity, signature, and compatibility; AID-H-003.009 scans model and adapter files for unsafe serialization and malware. Provenance does not prove safe loader behavior, and a clean static scan does not establish trusted origin.
Warning
Low to Medium on Release Friction & Validation Time
Strict adapter provenance checks and behavioral validation add friction to rapid experimentation and hot-swaps. This is usually acceptable for production or shared enterprise registries, but teams should define separate pathways for sandbox experimentation versus promotion into trusted environments.
Implementation guidance
- AID-H-003.007-G001: Require cryptographic verification and provenance attestation for every adapter artifact before load, attach, merge, or promotion.
- AID-H-003.007-G002: Bind each adapter to an approved base-model digest, tokenizer/version, target modules, and runtime compatibility manifest; fail closed on mismatch.
- AID-H-003.007-G003: Enforce internal registry allowlisting, revocation/tombstone handling, and publisher trust policy for adapters sourced from external hubs or marketplaces.
- AID-H-003.007-G004: Run pre-promotion behavioral validation on the adapter-composed model using golden tasks, safety canaries, and regression checks to detect trojans or severe behavior drift.
AID-H-003.007-G001
Concept:
Every adapter artifact (LoRA weights, QLoRA quantized adapters, PEFT config) should be cryptographically signed and carry provenance attestation before it is allowed beyond a sandboxed experiment. The attestation binds the adapter content to who produced it, from which pipeline, with which base model and training inputs, and under which policy. At load time, the platform must verify both the signature and the content digest before the adapter can be attached or merged.
Step 1: Generate a Canonical Manifest Digest at Build Time

# Build canonical manifest using RELATIVE paths, sorted deterministically,
# excluding generated signature artifacts.
while IFS= read -r -d '' rel; do

Concept:
A correctly signed adapter can still be unsafe. Behavioral validation should therefore be a promotion gate, not an optional quality check. Before an adapter is promoted into production or a shared trusted registry, the composed model should be evaluated against golden tasks, safety canaries, and regression thresholds to detect malicious triggers, unsafe drift, or unacceptable degradation.
Step 1: Define and sign the validation suite
Keep cases and benchmark identities in a signed suite. Thresholds are concrete numeric values in a separately signed adapter-release policy; they are never copied into this file as edit-time placeholders.
# File: tests/adapter_validation_suite.yaml
