AID-I-004.008: Context Summary & Compaction Integrity
Pillars: app
Lifecycle: building, operation
Scope boundary
Owns validation of each context summarization, compaction, or distillation transformation before its output re-enters active or persistent context. It preserves security-critical constraints and provenance, detects carried-forward poison, rejects raw-secret retention, and keeps unsupported or unverifiable summaries quarantined.
AID-I-004.001: AID-I-004.008 validates the compression transformation and its output; AID-I-004.001 isolates and limits the surrounding volatile session context. Context hygiene does not prove summary fidelity or safety, and a valid summary does not establish session or tenant isolation.
AID-I-004.005: AID-I-004.008 checks whether transformed context is safe and faithful; AID-I-004.005 governs persistent-record retention, staleness, downgrade, and deletion. Compaction is not a retention receipt, and deleting or expiring a record does not validate any summary derived from it.
AID-I-004.007: AID-I-004.008 verifies a summary or compaction output; AID-I-004.007 decides which secrets and privileged intermediate state must be demoted at a task-phase transition. When summarization implements demotion, both the phase decision and the transformation validation remain independently necessary.
Implementation guidance
- AID-I-004.008-G001: Enforce a structured summary schema that requires explicit retention of safety constraints, policy commitments, and source provenance, and reject any compacted output that fails schema validation.
- AID-I-004.008-G002: Run a post-compaction consistency check that verifies safety-critical instructions survived the summarization by comparing the compacted output against a pre-registered set of invariants.
- AID-I-004.008-G003: Scan every compacted summary for leaked secrets, PII, and raw credentials before the summary is allowed to enter context or persistent storage.
AID-I-004.008-G001
Concept
A summarizer is untrusted. It may report which canonical invariant and commitment IDs it retained, but it must never author safety text that is promoted into a system message. Accept compaction only after strict schema validation, exact source-population reconciliation, invariant/commitment verification, and secret scanning. Render trusted instructions exclusively from the signed policy store; inject the summary through an explicitly untrusted data channel.
Define a closed compaction schema and pipeline
This example uses Pydantic v2. The policy resolver, consistency checker, secret scanner, and audit sink are trusted adapters implemented by G002/G003 and the runtime platform. They verify their own signed inputs; the summarizer cannot instantiate their receipts.

Action: Never render summarizer-authored constraints or commitments into role=system. Reject duplicate JSON keys, missing or extra fields, changed/partial provenance, inconsistent invariant/commitment IDs, scanner error or incomplete scan population, and audit failure. Fallback may retain only typed user/assistant/tool data messages plus the independently rendered trusted instruction.
AID-I-004.008-G002
Security boundary and closed claim schema
Retained IDs are lookup keys, not preservation evidence. Extend the G001 compacted-output schema with one closed claim per expected invariant and commitment. Each untrusted claim must carry the exact canonical record digest, predicate digest, and predicate text obtained from the signed policy input, but trusted rendering still comes only from the authenticated registries. The consistency checker independently reconciles the complete claim population and a versioned deterministic verifier must evaluate every canonical predicate; a caller claim alone can never establish PASS.
# File: compaction/pipeline.py
# Replace the G001 CompactedContext declaration with this closed-schema version.

Verifier contract: the trusted verifier must use a signature-verified, versioned artifact and evaluate every canonical predicate against both the exact claim and the complete normalized summary. PRESERVED requires a total parse of the entire clause population under a closed grammar, with every clause allowed and the predicate-specific preservation clause present. An explicit conflict takes precedence over safe clauses; any unparsed suffix, mixed unknown text, unknown synonym, duplicate clause, unsupported predicate, or non-total parse is UNSUPPORTED. The receipt includes one result per expected constraint, exact claim/result population roots and counts, and the bounded rule/evidence digest for every result. Merely finding a familiar safe substring is never PRESERVED.
Action: G001 must quarantine the compacted output on FAIL/FINDING, INSUFFICIENT_DATA/UNKNOWN, ERROR/UNKNOWN, any missing, duplicate, extra, or digest-mismatched claim, incomplete verifier coverage, probabilistic assurance, or evidence readback mismatch. Only the independently rehydrated canonical policy block may enter the trusted instruction channel; the compacted summary stays low-trust data. PASS means every expected canonical predicate has complete deterministic bounded evidence, not general free-text semantic equivalence.
AID-I-004.008-G003
Concept
Compaction may carry credentials or personal data into the next context window even when the original message was correctly demoted. Scan the exact closed-schema population accepted by G001 with a versioned, signed scanner policy. Treat the scanner service as an adapter that must prove request binding and complete coverage; a partial scan, unsupported language, timeout, scanner error, finding, or unverifiable receipt takes the fallback path.
Implement the secret-scanner adapter used by G001

Scanner and policy-store requirements: the policy-store adapter verifies the signed policy, authorized signer, policy validity window, and exact scanner/version configuration. The scanner adapter enforces authenticated transport and service identity, rejects unsupported language or entity profiles, verifies its signed response, and binds the response to the exact request digest, scanner digest, field population, and decision. Presidio, a cloud DLP API, or an internal multilingual detector may implement that adapter; do not silently narrow the signed policy to one language or a short regex list.
Action: Scan all four G001 schema roots before persistence or context reuse. Record only receipt IDs, detector categories, and field paths in operational telemetry—never the matched secret value. Any BLOCK, ERROR, timeout, stale policy, unsupported profile, population mismatch, or receipt-verification failure must trigger G001's bounded truncation fallback; an empty or partial scan is never PASS.
